Halfway Pond Conservation Area

A journey through one of the world’s rarest ecosystems.

09.23.2025

Just this morning - I went on a 5-mile hike through the Halfway Pond Conservation Area in Plymouth MA.

12,000 years ago the last of the glacial ice sheets receded from the northeast US leaving scars of barren land across the landscape. These coastal plain pine barrens in southeastern Massachusetts are what’s left of that ecosystem.

You have to walk through them to understand. It’s a landscape completely of it’s own - even sound doesn't seem to travel the same. That’s what stayed with me - the way sound didn’t seem to penetrate into this part of the forest, and that the air felt like it was fresh and full of something that restored my energy.

I encourage anyone and everyone who enjoys a good nature walk to experience this place.

be a good human and please help us keep these lands clean and protected from outside contaminants so future generations can share in this experience with us.

- a good human project

Daisy was an amazing hike buddy!
